Surface Problem Followup3/21/07 by Thomas Fall...I've emailed the person at Wildwood regarding their vehicles on the trail. He claimed they needed to do surveillance for safety of the people. Not sure about that. He did say they would start using other type vehicles, i.e. bicycles or motorized carts which weigh much less. I know the spring is the worst time of year to drive on edges of the road because the ground is thawing and is not packed tightly like in the summer. [For more on this topic, see "Vehicular Use On Trails" in the trailside section.] Surface Breaking & Cracking3/17/07 by Thomas FallI use the trail very often to ride from the University starting point out to King road and out into the country. I have noticed the Metro Parks rangers like to use the path with their cars. There are many places where the edge of the path is breaking and cracking. This would not be happening with foot or bicycle traffic. Just last week I noticed dirt along the trail out near King road. Someone is hauling dirt by truck down the path. There is an opening just south of Sylvania high school that show tire tracks. The bike path is a great thing for many folks, but it will be ruined if misused. Trail Specs:Length: 6.4 miles / asphalt - approx. 12' wide Condition: Good to Very Good Facilities: Water fountains on UT campus. Restrooms available inside Wildwood Metro Park. Food: Shouldn't be hard to find nearby, but nothing trailside. Parking: Parking at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. Enter off of Central Avenue east of I-475. Emergency Call Boxes: On the UT campus portion of the bikeway.
