There is a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist(s). Read more...

Those Darn Posts & Some Pics

6/3/07 by Tom Bower, Canal Fulton, OH

I just biked the Sippo yesterday (June 2nd) from Ernie's Bike shop on Lake Avenue [on the nearby Ohio & Erie Towpath] in Massillon to Village Green Park in Dalton and back. My odo made it just under 24 miles through some of the most beautiful scenery in the area. There are at least two places where the trail crosses roads at which the posts are still too close together for my money! Otherwise the trail is in good shape and I highly recommend it. I wish less of it were paved but that's me.

I took a camera along and you can view the pics here.

Some of the center barrier posts have now been removed and the metal plates have been ground down.

Slight Grade

9/8/04 by Rick Baas

If you start on the east end (Massillon) and ride to the west end (Dalton) it is a gradual climb the entire way. We usually ride at an average speed of about 11-12 miles an hour heading west. On the return trip, heading east, because we are going with the grade, we can average 15-17 miles an hour.

East End Extended

The trail now extends past Bottoms Park in Massillon to the Ohio & Erie ...Towpath Trail where Walnut Street intersects the latter trail that is, at that point, on the Tuscarawas River Dike.

The Sippo Trail runs east to the river from Bottoms Park then south under the Lincoln Way and Tremont Bridges then, along a few City Streets to Oak Knoll Park and onto Walnut Street and the River Dike.

I have hiked two miles at each end of the Sippo Trail (and back making eight miles) and find it well designed and constructed. The people responsible for the planning and maintenance of this trail should be congratulated.

I think everyone in Stark County will be happy to finally have a first class trail they can use, even though some of this one is in Wayne County.
