Dodridge Street Bridge Construction7/7/11 by Ohio BikewaysFrom Columbus Local News, ""The closure of the Dodridge Street Bridge and Olentangy Trail now is scheduled to occur beginning July 13, officials from the Franklin County Engineers Office announced last week. "Dean Ringle, county engineer, said replacement of the Dodridge Street Bridge -- spanning the Olentangy River between Olentangy River Road and Neil Avenue -- requires that Dodridge Street and the Olentangy Trail to be closed until September 2012, weather permitting. Scioto Trail Construction Alert2/13/11 by Ohio BikewaysFrom Columbus Parks, "The trail will be closed from February 1 to May 15 for construction of a new trail underpass beneath the Main Street bridge connecting to the Scioto Mile. Users will not be able to access the path from Main Street heading south, or pass through from Scioto Audubon heading north. Four major construction projects are currently underway in 2011 near this site, and a trail detour has been posted which uses Front Street, Short Street, and Whittier Street. "By the summer of 2011, with the opening of the Scioto Mile project, the trail detours from Scioto Audubon to Broad Street will be mostly taken down, with the exception of the construction of the Rich Street bridge. However, this short detour section will not be difficult for users to pass around." Temporary Trail Closing12/10/10 by Ohio BikewaysThe Columbus Rec & Parks Department posted this construction alert, "Olentangy Trail Termporarily Closed @ 3rd Avenue and Olentangy River Road. "The Utilities Department is working on an emergency storm line repair. This is a short term repair situation, and is expected to be completed by Wednesday, December 15." Sewer Project Closes Trail Section3/13/10 by Ohio Bikeways"A 1.5 mile segment of the Olentangy Trail will be closed, between Pacemont Avenue and Patterson Avenue, from January 26 to April 19. A detour will be posted beginning from Pacemont Avenue to High Street, south to North Street, to Neil Avenue, then west on Patterson Avenue to return to the trail. From the south, the detour will route from Tuttle Recreation Center at Patterson Avenue, east to Neil Avenue, north to Dodridge Street, east to High Street, north to Pacemont Avenue, then west to return to the trail. "The closure is due to a sewer improvement project. "Additional questions or concerns can be directed to gjzonders@columbus.gov or 645-2441 (Recreation and Parks)." View a map of the detour. Columbus Trail Resource1/12/06 by Ohio BikewaysCheck out the new Central Ohio Greenways for a summary of major Columbus area trails. Trail Specs:Length: Approx. 20 miles / asphalt & concrete - width varies from 6-10' (with some narrower sidewalks) Condition: Good to Very Good Facilities: Restrooms & water at many parks along the trail. Food: Many possibilities if you're interested in wandering off the trail a bit in German Village, downtown or the Short North areas. Ben Walum writes, "...there are restaurants such as Subway and Nancy's Home Cooking in the vicinity of Pacemont Road (Subway) and California (Nancy's Cooking) on High St. ...there is also a Wendy's restaurant across from the fire station in Clintonville." Parking: There are a number of parks along the bikeway you can use. Antrim Lake Park seems to be a popular facility.
