For some time we've used post dates next to news items on the News Board. The dates reflected when we posted the news, as opposed to when it was originally published. Now they represent the actual publish dates, so you can determine older news at a glance.
Bikeway plans and networks are continually growing and evolving. In an effort to bring you more local coverage, we've added some links to the margin menu on the Map page. Mouseover 'City Networks' there to find bikeway plans and city-wide trail maps.
Give us a shout if we've missed your local network.
We're adding a touch of multi-media to the News page in the form of a YouTube video bar. Actually, this first batch doesn't contain any news video, but that's likely to change once we determine how to best utilize it throughout the site.
Mouse over the thumnbnails to bring up titles and runtime. Currently the bar cycles through 3 groups of clips, changing about every 15 seconds.
A few of the videos are quite good, while some klunkers are mixed in as well. They're brought up by a search device, so we weren't able to select each one. We'll be experimenting with more video this season as we look to further enhance the site. Enjoy!
It took a bit longer than expected, but our web site code cleanup is finally finished. We're bound to have missed a little dust or dirt here or there. So if you find any leftover messes (bad links, incomplete pages, etc.), be sure to drop us a line.
Trail classes are now included in all the featured reviews in the review section. Look for them in the Trail Specs area of the review pages.
With the addition of a Google Search tool, you can now search the web or this site from the homepage. It's a speedy way to find anything here at Ohio Bikeways. Find pages that make mention of a particular city or town. Or concepts such as 'navigation.' Or to quickly find your comments or photos, perform a search using your name. Try it out!
We'll be finishing our house cleaning in the review section where the new trail classes are being added. When the section is finished, you'll only find them in the 'Trail Specs' portion of the reviews. In the future they may be used in other areas such as the Ohio Trail List.
There are good online resources for those interested in learning more about the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath. Here's a fine one to add to that list: "An Inquisitive Visitor's Guide." Dave Hayslip's site has a complete list of towpath trailheads (open, future & under construction). It also features his annual trail rides, towpath resources and more. Canal buffs will enjoy the historical photos and lock coverage.
We're pleased to add several links to Dave's site from our pages, including our Links page. Look for the site to find a new home soon.
Along with The Inquisitive Visitor's links, we've added a couple of related Yahoo! Groups as well. You'll find them in the 'Trail Forum' section on the Links page. Their members post news, construction reports and more on the O & E Towpath. Be sure to consult them when trip planning!
We'll be cleaning up the code on pages throughout the Ohio Bikeways web site in the next couple of weeks or so. Please excuse our mess during this time.
The new Map Blog will cover the Ohio Bikeways Gmap and related subjects. You can look forward to posts covering map features and development, new API tools that benefit the trail traveler and more. Be sure to share your thoughts and ideas. Check it out!
