I rode the Old Muskingham trail in late August 2004. The surface is now covered evenly with crushed stone; it is still soft in some places but perfectly safe for mountain bikes. It would not be possible to use a road bike on this trail.
Hi there! I have an 8-year old 15 speed cheap version of a mountain bike and I'm 23, and I did the Muskingham Trail. I'm glad you put 'use a fat tire' for the road surface, but it wasn't really smooth limestone halfway down the trail heading towards Massillon, Ohio.
When I got to the halfway point or so, I noticed straw for grass and construction tire tracks which kept me going on the trail because it looked like civilization was intervening on an otherwise overlooked trail, considering I thought I was completely LOST!
Fun adventure, but the rocks on the trail were at least an inch or bigger making the ride extremely rough. If I would've known I wouldn't have been lost, I would've enjoyed the adventure of seeming to be lost even more than I did. I love your webpage, keep it up.
